Flipping the old food pyramid on its side, the USDA's new MyPyramid-graphic adds a staircase for exercise and offers a dozen different models, all aimed at improving the health of Americans.

The new pyramid comes as an interactive food guidance system focused on the central message, "Steps to a Healthier You."

The graphic incorporates recommendations from the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which was released by the USDA and the HHS in January.

The MyPyramid symbol is designed to be simple, though some critics dispute that. It has been developed to remind consumers to make healthful choices and to be active every day.

The six different parts of the symbol include: activity, moderation, personalization, proportionality, variety and gradual improvement.
