IPC Names Recipe Contest Winners

Stephen Ganser, general manager at Metz Culinary Management in Elliotsburg, PA, won an all-expense paid trip to the 2011 SNA Annual Conference for his winning recipe in the Idaho Potato Commission's Wake Up to Excellence recipe contest. His recipe was for Idaho Potato Cheesy Biscuit Scramble, which uses muffin tins filled with dough rounds that are stuffed with scrambled eggs, crisp turkey bacon, Idaho potato hash browns, then mixed with peppers and onions and topped off with a light sprinkle of cheese.

The five Honorable Mentions were:

  • Low-Sodium Breakfast Taco from Minnie Batten of Shawnee (OK) High School

  • Breakfast Lasagna from Sonny Burns of Franklin Regional in Murrysville, PA

  • Sizzling Spuds from Judith Diane Davis of Mecklenburg (NC) County

  • Potato Sun Blast from Sylvia Kravitz's of San Diego

  • Eye Popping Potatoes from Jo Ann Moor of Shawnee (OK) School District

The Wake Up to Excellence 2011 Recipe Contest was open to school foodservice professionals only. Recipes had to include fresh or value added frozen, refrigerated or dehydrated processed Idaho potatoes and conform to federal nutrition standards and costs for the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs.
