Birdmen of Alcatraz
October 1, 2009
The advocacy group PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) recently contacted Virginia authorities about leasing a former correctional facility for use as a “chicken museum.” The Botetourt Correctional Center in Troutville, now standing empty, would under PETA's plan house exhibits detailing the mistreatment of fowl on factory farms. It would also include example of chickens' habits and intelligence.
Just Desserts is dubious about the whole concept. Just how many people would travel to Troutville (near Roanoke) to bask in the glory that is the chicken, or to commiserate with fowl prisoners on the fast track to the nugget-maker machine?
Besides, isn't the idea of a chicken museum redundant? Doesn't KFC already have one?
…oh, wait…
HEADLINE OF THE MONTH
“Drunk Man Found at Grocery Store Eating Avocados”
Actually, he also ate cake, cookies, plums and pistachios, but somehow “avocados” makes the headline pop in a way none of the other foods would have. (from Bismarck (ND) Tribune, August 25, 2009)
