Granita is a semi-frozen dessert of sugar, water, and flavorings. Related to sorbet and Italian ice, it has a coarser, more crystalline texture and can be made with any type of fruit juice or coffee.

Granita is a semi-frozen dessert of sugar, water, and flavorings. Related to sorbet and Italian ice, it has a coarser, more crystalline texture and can be made with any type of fruit juice or coffee.

Ingredients

6 pomegranates
1⁄3 cup sugar to taste
1⁄2 cup pomegranate arils for garnish

Steps

  1. Juice pomegranates, making about 3 cups. (To juice a pomegranate, slice in half crosswise and use citrus juicer.)

  2. Combine pomegranate juice with sugar in large bowl. Stir until sugar dissolves.

  3. Follow directions for automatic ice cream freezer or put in a large mixing bowl in freezer. Stir every 30 min. until frozen and fluffy.
