This cheeseburger is a takeoff on the Philly Cheesesteak, incorporating that sandwich's iconic cheese, grilled peppers and onions into a burger topping.

Ingredients

6 patties (5- to 6-oz. each) Niman Ranch natural ground beef
6 sesame burger buns
3 green bell peppers, sliced into 1/2-in. strips
1 white onion, sliced into 1/2-in. strips
Olive oil
12 slices white American cheese

Steps

  1. Grill burger patties to desired doneness.

  2. While burgers are cooking, combine peppers and onions with 2 tbsp. olive oil. Place on grill and cook just until tender.

  3. Just before burgers are done, toast buns on grill. Place burgers on bottom buns; top with onions and peppers, followed by 2 slices cheese. Allow cheese to melt slightly. Top with second half of bun.
