This dish combines cucumber, mint and onions with low-fat yogurt to make a tangy yogurt sauce. The sauce makes the perfect topper to tender lamb, served in a pita with onion and tomatoes.

Ingredients

Yogurt Sauce
3⁄4 cup plain low-fat yogurt
2⁄3 cup fine-chopped cucumber
2 green onions, thinly sliced
1 tbsp. chopped fresh mint
1⁄4 tsp. granulated sugar
1⁄4 tsp. garlic powder
Salt to taste

4 6-in. pitas, halved crosswise
24 oz. American lamb roasted leg or gyro meat, sliced thin
1 small onion, separated into rings
2 medium tomatoes, sliced

Steps

1. To make Yogurt Sauce, combine all ingredients in medium bowl. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.

2. Split open each pita half to form pocket. Place 3 oz. lamb or gyro meat inside pocket.

3. Insert onion rings and tomato slices into pocket.

4. Serve pitas with Yogurt Sauce.
