Like an Asian spring roll, these lumpia serve as great appetizers with Latin flair.

Ingredients

1/2 lb. ground pork
1/2 lb. ground beef
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 carrot, grated
1/8  cup soy sauce
2 1/2 tsp. black pepper
1 1/2 tbsp. garlic powder
1/2 tbsp. salt
1 1/2 tbsp. brown sugar
1 tbsp. scallions, finely chopped
1 16-oz. package spring roll wrappers
1 cup of water
2 cups canola oil for frying
1 bottle sweet chili sauce

Steps

  1. In bowl, mix ground pork, ground beef, onions, carrots, soy sauce, black pepper, garlic powder, salt, brown sugar and scallions.

  2. Place 2 tablespoons of meat mixture on bottom corner of 1 square spring roll wrapper; moisten top corner with water. Fold and roll bottom slightly, fold in side and then continue to roll until closed. Repeat until all wrappers are rolled.

  3. In pot, heat oil to 350°F. Slowly add 5 lumpias to oil and cook for about 4 minutes, or until golden brown. Repeat until all are cooked.

  4. Serve with sweet chili sauce.
