Fondue is the ultimate romantic date dessert. Serve this butterscotch dessert fondue with fresh fruits, cookies, or sweet breads.

Ingredients

2 cups packed brown sugar
1⁄2 cup simple sugar syrup
4 oz. butter
Salt
1 cup whipping cream
1 tbsp. vanilla extract
1⁄2 tsp. lemon juice
Mint sprig, for garnish
Assorted dippers (donut holes, marshmallows, dried fruit, cut-up fresh fruit)
 

Steps

  1. Combine brown sugar, syrup, butter, and pinch of salt in heavy saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Boil mixture 10 min., without stirring, to 280°F.

  2. Remove from heat and stir in cream, vanilla, and lemon juice until smooth. Return to heat until reduced to desired thickness, if necessary.

  3. Pour mixture into fondue pot and keep warm over low to medium heat. Serve accompanied by assorted dippers.
