Asiago Cheese & Basil Stuffed Burger

YIELD: 3, 8 oz burgers

1 1⁄2 lbs. fresh ground grade A beef
2 Tbsps. A-1 Steak Sauce
1 tsp. ground sea salt
1⁄4 tsp. ground red pepper corns
1 cup Asiago cheese, shredded
1⁄4 cup basil, cleaned, dried, diced
3 whole grain hamburger buns, lightly toasted
1 small red onion, thinly sliced
1 plum tomato,thinly sliced

  1. Prepare lightly greased char grill.

  2. In medium bowl, combine ground meat and seasonings. Divide mixture into six equal 4 oz portions; form into thin burgers. Mound 2 Tbsps. cheese on each of half the burgers and top with a second burger. Pinch edges shut to seal cheese inside meat. Place at center of grill.

  3. Grill, uncovered, 5 to 6-inches over medium coals for 5 minutes. Move to cooler edge of grill and continue to grill 10 minutes longer or until burgers are cooked through and spring back to the touch. Serve on hamburger buns, garnished with onions and tomatoes.
