Apples and cinnamon cooked in butter yield an enticing scent. This betty made with three kinds of apples will make everyone want dessert first. Serve it warm with rum-raisin ice cream for a decadent treat.

Ingredients

3⁄4 cup butter
8 large apples, Granny Smith, Yellow Delicious, and Gala
1⁄2 cup golden raisins
1 tbsp. cinnamon
1 1⁄4 cups sugar
1⁄4 cup flour
3 1⁄2 cups dry breadcrumbs
 

Steps

1. In a saucepan, melt butter and set aside. Peel and core apples and cut into 1⁄2-in. slices.

2. In a large bowl, combine flour and sugar. Coat a 10 X 13-in. baking dish with butter and sprinkle bottom with 1 cup breadcrumbs. Sprinkle 1⁄4 cup sugar and flour mixture over bottom and top with half of the apples. Repeat.

3. Top apples with remaining breadcrumbs, sugar, and melted butter.

4. Bake until brown and bubbling, about 45 min. Serve with rum-raisin ice cream.
