Bacon draws snackers like a puddle of honey attracts ants. Added to a bowl of popcorn, it makes for an irresistible bar snack or mid-afternoon munch. Chef Kapitan complements the bacon with maple syrup and black pepper, tosses it with popcorn, then bakes the mixture to a crunchy turn.

Ingredients

1 tsp. olive oil
1 lb. thick-cut bacon
3/4 cup maple syrup
1 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
1/2 tsp. salt
6 cups popped popcorn

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 350’F. Heat olive oil in skillet over med. heat. Add bacon strips and cook until crisp.

  2. Remove bacon to paper towels to drain. Reserve 2 tbsp. drippings.

  3. Crumble bacon. In large bowl, toss bacon, drippings, maple syrup, pepper and salt with popcorn. Spread popcorn mixture in single layer on parchment-lined baking sheets.

  4. Bake 10 min., rotating sheets halfway through and stirring occasionally. Serve hot.
