The University of Texas-Dallas plans to roll out its first food truck when fall classes begin

The University of Texas-Dallas plans to roll out its first food truck when fall classes begin. The menu will feature burger sliders, an assortment of ethnic sandwiches in pocket bread and Asian wraps, as well as sides like fries, fresh fruit, chips, cookies, and hummus and pita with fresh veggies. The menu may change, based on diners’ preferences, says Carrie Chutes, manager of auxiliary services.
The mobile eatery will be parked at one of several locations on campus, depending on the time of day, Chutes says. Hours and locations will be posted on the Dining Services website. The truck will operate from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. to midnight.
Students may pay for meals at the truck with cash or credit card.
“It’s one of our solutions to feeding our growing campus,” Chutes says. “Students have mentioned wanting late-night dining options after The Pub closes at 11 p.m.”
Taking food closer to residence halls and apartments will help alleviate long lines in the Student Union at regular mealtimes, she adds. “This will be a way for students to grab a quick bite on their way to class.”
In addition, a newly expanded quick buy section in the Student Union’s Comet Café will better accommodate lunch and dinner crowds.
Called Outtakes Grab-and-Go, it will feature a salad bar, drink station, assorted cold sandwiches, pre-packaged salads, hot rice bowls, sushi, chips, snacks and fruit from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday.
