University’s shipping container farm to supply produce to dining halls

Georgia State University in Atlanta will soon lean on its hydroponic shipping container farm to provide organic produce for its campus, AJC.com reports.

Housed in a 320-square-foot shipping container, the farm allows the school to grow fresh produce in an urban environment, as space is limited. The farm was funded through a sustainability fee included in students’ tuition.

While the year-old farm has occasionally supplied lettuce and herbs to cafes and events on campus, the farm will provide wasabi arugula, basil and kale on a continuing basis to campus dining halls starting this fall.
