University’s new garden to serve dual purpose

A new garden at the University of Montana will not only provide organic vegetables for its dining services—it will also educate students about the state’s food system, nbcmontana.com has learned.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture awarded the university a $20,000 grant last year, which was used to start the garden, officials say.

“It’s hyperlocal, which means we pick it really fresh, and it will go right into the campus community,” Stasia Orkwiszewski, the university’s gardens manager, told the website.
