University of New Mexico moves closer to on-campus taproom
If approved, the taproom could open as soon as August.

The University of New Mexico has revised its proposal for an on-campus taproom in an effort to reduce costs of the potential build, according to the Albuquerque Journal. However, the school is still waiting on approvals before next steps for the concept can begin.
The idea for the taproom—which would take over a seating area in the school’s student union and include an outdoor patio—came from students two years ago, and design plans were put together by students in the university’s architecture program.
The Albuquerque, N.M., school’s Dining & Food Services department would foot around 50% of the taproom’s costs, which are currently slated to total $650,000, while Chartwells would chip in the rest.
In the meantime, Chartwells has received six responses from area breweries with potential interest in a taproom partnership.
