Simpson University has hired restaurateur Cal DeMercurio as its new director of dining services.

DeMurcurio—a former certified executive chef with the American Culinary Federation (ACF), ACF Chef of the Year winner and culinary Olympic gold medalist—joins Chartwells, the foodservice provider that operates the Emeriti Dining Center and The Bean Scene cafe at the California-based university.

"We are very pleased to have Chef Cal on the Simpson campus and are grateful for the partnership that the university has with Chartwells,” said Brad Williams, Simpson University’s vice president of Business Services, in a statement. “We anticipate that Cal's years of culinary experience will serve our students well.”

Chef DeMurcurio brings 17 years of restaurant experience to his new role, including owning and serving as executive chef of DeMurcurio’s Fine Dining in California.
