The dining services department at Murray State University in Murray, Ky., has started a program to help students facing food insecurity, Kentucky New Era reports.

Dubbed The Meal Bank, the program grants 14 meals per semester to students who are not on a meal plan and who are struggling financially. Accepted students will be able to “pay” for their meals at Winslow Dining Hall by swiping their student IDs just like students on a meal plan.

The dining team supports the program through unused guest meals that students on an unlimited meal plan receive for free. Murray State says the unused meals could fund 1,000 meals for students per semester.
