Tapingo alliance extends 7-Eleven delivery to college campuses

Arrangement allows students at participating schools access to major c-store chain's inventory, including prepared foods.

7-Eleven, Inc. has announced a new partnership with college mobile commerce application vendor Tapingo to launch on-demand delivery of 7-Eleven products in the higher education market. The arrangement currently allows students at or near the participating colleges in California, Arizona, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Maryland to order delivery of 7-Eleven foods, beverages and other merchandise with a few taps of the Tapingo app.

Tapingo has already built strong relationships with more than 100 colleges that accept the use of its app to provide students advanced, mobile food-ordering, pick up and delivery from campus dining, food-service companies and national brands.

"We've seen a tremendous demand from students for late-night eats,” said Tapingo Chief Business Officer Jeff Hardy in a release announcing the partnership with 7-Eleven. “Sometimes, you just need a Slurpee and a pizza at 1 a.m.! Welcoming 7-Eleven to our rapidly growing partner ecosystem significantly increases our ability to provide students with what they want, when they want it. The 7-Eleven brand is synonymous with convenience, and that's exactly what our community looks to us to provide.”

Through the app, Tapingo users can browse the 7-Eleven aisles and have their orders delivered quickly and efficiently with a $2.99 delivery charge. There’s also exclusive promotions and VIP treatment available through the Club Tapingo feature.

"Tapingo users are largely college students who are digital natives,” added Raja Doddala, 7-Eleven’s vice president for innovation and ventures. “They are redefining convenience and accustomed to ordering what they want with a few taps on a computer or smart phone. Tapingo's technology helps us build a relationship with this demographic.”

He also noted that 7-Eleven products such as whole pizzas, chicken wings, ice cream and energy drinks particularly appeal to college-age consumers.
