Nov. 30—UC Santa Cruz and Northwestern University have been named the most vegan friendly college dining programs in America by peta2’s annual contest. The list is generated by thousands of student votes and by an independent assessment of the quality and quantity of vegan dining options available, according to peta2’s website.

UC Santa Cruz has been on the large school list for several years, but this is the first time the school has taken the top spot due to its popular Meatless Monday program. This year is Northwestern University’s second time on top in the small school category. The dining services department at Northwestern reports that between 35% and 55% of students select a vegetarian or vegan entrée every day.
