Northeastern University's International Village dining hall reopened following renovations to add new stations for diners with food allergies as well as for those preferring kosher and halal dining options. There is also a new Deli-To-Go program.
The kosher station will offer both hot and cold entrées, vegetarian sides and parve (meat- and dairy-free) menu items. It will be supervised by an on-site mashgiach and the Rabbinical Council of New England. Shabbat meal options will be available for Friday dinner and Saturday lunch and dinner. Previously, kosher food on campus had been limited to frozen meals.
The new Zone 7 station has been designated specifically for diners with food allergies and sensitivities. It features menu items that are free of seven major food allergens: milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, gluten and soy. Halal protein choices are also available upon request at Zone 7, as well as well as at two other campus dining facilities.
The new “Deli-To-Go” program allows diners to order a variety of sandwiches and wraps at the front desk without having to swipe in and enter the full facility. It runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the week.
