OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill. — The Denny’s family restaurant chain plans to expand its presence on college campuses by opening more units of a fast-casual variation called The Den, patterned after the outlet that opened at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

The Den features all-day breakfast, “smashed” burgers, burritos, sandwiches, salads and alternative sides like fried green beans.

“We believe that Denny's can compete successfully in the non-traditional market and look forward to opening more university locations utilizing this format starting later this year,” Denny’s Corp. CEO John Miller recently told investors.
