Napa Valley (CA) College administrators and campus dining services provider Taher, Inc., are engaged in a controversy over a student group’s insistence on providing free food once a week to students, reports the Napa Valley Register. The Free Food Wednesdays initiative, which has apparently received some support from the school’s board of trustees, is a food relief program organized by students that would provide a free meal to disadvantaged students once each week. Administrators object to the idea on food safety grounds and also because of contractual obligations to Taher, which has the sole right by contract to provide food services on the campus.
