Binghamton University Dining Services recently hosted "Cake Boss" Chef Buddy Valastro for filming. Valastro, an accomplished master baker, cake decorator and star of the hit TLC reality show Cake Boss, was in town to produce an upcoming episode for a spinoff called Bakery Boss, which helps struggling business owners.

Production company High Noon Entertainment reached out to Binghamton and its dining services provider Sodexo for bakery space and four days of production time. Sodexo accommodated Valastro’s production team with scheduling and facilities and helped procure a few odd items such as a hand saw, cordless drill, wood screws and ¾” doweling.

“The crew brought in their own ingredients and supplies while using our equipment and space for production and storage,” says Campus Executive Chef John Enright, II. “They baked and decorated cookies and cakes each afternoon until midnight.”

Enright adds that the crew’s bakery staff, led by Ashley Holt, winner of TLC’s Next Great Baker, were excellent to work with, extremely talented and did not mind Sodexo’s dining staff asking questions and taking photos. The episode is scheduled to air January 6th on TLC.

“We were thrilled to host TLC and the Cake Boss legend here to film portions of the upcoming episode,” says Ryan Yarosh, Binghamton's Director of Media & Public Relations. “Our role was to let the production crew utilize our full service bakery to help a struggling business owner from the area. Students from our culinary groups on campus had the opportunity to meet Buddy and students, alumni and community members worked on the set.”
