In the past year, UW’s Department of Housing & Food Services successfully launched operations at its new West Campus residential dining facility, Local Point. Located in newly built Lander Hall, Local Point offers cook-to-flow service and social dining to the more than 4,000 students who live in that area of the campus.
A new universitywide sponsorship agreement with Starbucks brought a systemwide switch to serving Starbucks coffee, after several years of serving Tully’s coffee. The deal, which began right before the academic year, required a quick transition as new menus, recipes and staff training all had to be implemented in a very short time span.
In the fall, UW Dining successfully opened its second Husky Grind coffee shop at newly built Mercer Court. Husky Grind serves UW’s own locally ground exclusive coffee blend and a range of ethically sourced coffees from around the world.
UW Dining also saw tremendous growth of sales at its FM Best Concept Award-winning District Market neighborhood market. Opened in 2013, District Market has become the main grocery for West Campus residents. It provides the students with alternative eating options and is open to the campus community.
