An inside look at Charleston’s new kosher/vegetarian dining hall

This month, the College of Charleston opened Marty’s Place, a kosher/vegetarian dining hall named after Dr. Martin Perlmutter, the college’s longtime director of Jewish Studies. The campus eatery serves vegan and vegetarian dishes that also observe kosher dietary laws, attracting both Jewish students as well any students interested in meat-free dining. The inaugural menu includes Napoleon Burgers, Lentil Tacos and Zucchini Noodle Bolognese. Marty’s Place is also open to the public, capitalizing on the foot traffic in the surrounding blocks of Charleston’s picturesque historic district.
