A planned trial expansion of the Yale University Sustainable Food Project has been cancelled due to its expense, reports the Yale Daily News. The expansion, which began at the start of the current school year, delivered four entirely sustainable meals—Wednesday lunch, Thursday lunch and dinner and Sunday brunch —to the dining halls each week while also increasing late-night sustainable offerings in Commons. Starting Oct. 6, that will be scaled back to one completely sustainable meal per week and at least one sustainable entrée at all other meals, which was the schedule before the expansion. Administrators quoted by the Yale Daily News cite fiscal prudence in the face of additional expenses resulting from the dining program’s transition to self-operation next spring, as well as some other costs, as the reasons for pulling the plug on the experiment.
