The largest SUNY (State University of New York) school in terms of students living on campus, Stony Brook requires resident students in their first two semesters, along with students living in select residences, to be on a residence hall meal plan.

These plans operate on a declining balance points basis at the more than 30 campus retail dining sites. To ease financial strain on students, the school will for the first time this year allow points to roll over from the fall to the spring, and it has also held both meal plan and retail rates unchanged from last year.

Also new this year is a kiosk-based remote ordering system at the Student Activities Center for three of the concepts there, as well as a new all-you-care-to-eat option called Jasmine and a new vegetarian/vegan station called Green Street in the Union Commons. There is also a new campus c-store for grocery and fresh local produce.

The dining mix consists primarily of in-house concepts augmented by a few commercial brands like Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts and Wendy’s. Most are concentrated into multi-station environments like the Student Activities Center, the Stony Brook Union, West Side Dining and Roth Food Court. There is also a food truck (JGQ’s) that parks on campus to offer an additional lunch option.
