Pennsylvania Capitol Cafe Reopens

The cafeteria in the Pennsylvania Capitol in Harrisburg has reopened after being shuttered for more than two weeks because of rodent infestation and more than a dozen other health code violations. Before the inspection on December 17 that discovered the violations, the popular coffee and lunch spot on the ground floor of the Capitol had not been inspected since 2005 despite a state law requiring all foodservice operations to be checked annually.

Apparently, the lapse was caused by a dispute between the state’s Dept. of Agriculture and the City of Harrisburg over who had jurisdiction, reports the Philadelphia Inquirer. The cafeteria has been managed by Aramark since 2004. The company says it has not only cleaned up the violations but dismissed the site manager, implemented a food safety training program and hired a new pest control firm, according to the Inquirer.
