A new cafe is slated to open at Mile Bluff Medical Center in Mauston, offering fresh food and beverages to staff and clients alike.

Construction of the new cafeteria space, which will take the place of a simple staff seating area with vending machines as the only food source, began in mid-July and will be completed before the end of the year.

“The goal is to have it open before Thanksgiving,” said Scott Schuld, food and nutrition service director for the center. Schuld stated that a staff survey demonstrated the desire and need for such a cafeteria within the facility.

“It was the first place that I’ve ever worked in that didn’t have a cafeteria for the staff in a hospital setting,” he said.
