March 5—Foodservice contractor Guckenheimer Enterprises is building a $1 million commissary that will enable the company to provide high-end off-premise catering and to venture into new businesses such as food trucks, according to Corporate Executive Chef Arturo Zarate.

Guckenheimer, based in Redwood Shores, Calif., also cited the possibility of pursuing “new culinary ventures and partnerships,” without divulging details. The announcement noted that the kitchen will be used to service existing accounts as well, and will serve as a test kitchen and training facility.

The commissary is scheduled to open by July 1 in South San Francisco.

Guckenheimer currently operates 300 corporate dining facilities in 28 states.
