L.A. residents who visit the KFC Saucy Nuggets Dispensary on Saturday won’t be able to score any cannabis products. Instead of marijuana, the Louisville, Kentucky-based chicken chain is dispensing free Saucy Nuggets and limited-edition merch in celebration of the new menu item.

The nuggets, which launched nationwide at KFC locations on April 1, are sauced with five different flavors: Honey Sriracha, Korean BBQ, Sticky Chicky Sweet ‘n Sour, Nashville Hot and Georgia Gold. “Much like picking your perfect strain is a personal preference, so is picking your perfect sauced nugget variety,” KFC said in a press release promoting the event.

At the Dispensary, the public is invited to taste all five varieties and learn more about the different nugget flavor profiles. Guests can work with KFC’s “sauce-perts” to pick their favorite.

R&D activity around sauces has really accelerated in the quick-service and fast-casual segment, as brands compete to offer a wide array of flavors and signatures. Indeed, according to Technomic’s Flavor Consumer Trend Report, 34% of consumers consider what sauces and condiments are available when deciding what restaurant to visit.

With the Dispensary, KFC is building on the buzz surrounding the launch of Saucy Nuggets. The event, hosted by comedian Niles Abston, takes place from 12 noon-6 p.m. Pacific Time at the Dispensary’s location: 1306 Abbot Kinney Blvd., Los Angeles.

KFC wants it to be known that there will be no marijuana at the Dispensary nor are guests permitted to bring their own.
